Settler: The Saga of Ordid

Iceland, 2012 - Video - Lamp + Chair - Filmed During a residency on the Island of Hrisey: Old School - Screened at the Petaluma Art Center in California and Praxis Art Center Projection night in St-Therese.

Filmed during a research residency in Iceland, this work is inspired by old tales present in Icelandic sagas. The project is centered around the notion of settlement and folkloric beliefs. What struck me in Iceland was the faint general beliefs in elves and trolls and it, in a sense, denotes their view of the untameable power of nature and their acknowledgement that they were not the only settlers. This work is a play between settler and nature through the use of a found chair and a lamp.
